Wangfu hotel is a 4 star hotel near the South Gate of the Old Town. The hotel has 2 floors and is build in the traditional Naxi style with small courtyards and waterside pavilions. The neighborhood is full with other hotels and guesthouses.
We booked a family suite. This is a duplex house (85m) in the garden with downstairs the living room and bathroom. Upstairs are two bedrooms: a larger one and a small one. Because we were with three people, it was perfect for us.
Living room was basic. The sofa was not new, the large television had only a few Chinese stations. In the living room was free broadband internet. Beds are okay: clean, wide and with hard matrasses. Our bathroom had a separate wc and shower and was in a 'courtyard' (in our own duplex house). Shower was basic but sufficient.
Breakfast was near the reception upstairs on the second floor. The breakfast room has also a balcony. The food is mainly Chinese: a cook makes eggs and noodless. On the tables is a hot buffet with rice, potatoes, vegetables, meat, bread, fruit and cakes.
We were satisfied with the Wangfu Hotel but not with its location. The South Gate is at the border of the Old Town. In the morning, it is possible to walk in 15 minutes over the cobblestones to the Sifang Square. But when it becomes more crowded, walking time to the square is 30 minutes. Walking from the water wheel/Bar Street takes at least 45 minutes.
Distance to the airport is 28km. Road toll is 10 Yuan. Taxi driver didn't use the meter but asked 80 Yuan which we agreed. The shuttlebus at the airport is cheaper and cost 15 Yuan p.p. The airport bus goes to the civil aviation office so you need a taxi to the old town(10 Yuan).
