our review of WenJun Mansion Hotel Chengdu
The WenJun Mansion is an ancient style courtyard hotel in Chengdu. It has 4 stories and is located in Qintai Road, a street full with buildings in the ancient Ming and Qing Dynasty style. Right behind the hotel is the Wenhua Park with the Qingyang Temple. Tianfu Square with the Mao statue is about 2.5 kilometers away.
In July 2007, we stayed 3 nights in the hotel. We had booked a twin room and double room and payed about 300 Yuan per night per room. Both rooms had a view on the courtyard and were clean and large. The furniture is all in old style. Beds have hard matrasses. This is usual in China. Free broadband internet is included in the room rate.
Breakfast is outside in the courtyard. Price is 15 Yuan. There is not much choice but you can eat as much as you want.
The reception rent safes which are big enough for a laptop. In the reception area is also a computer available (at cost) and a refrigerator for cold drinks. The hotel can book for you tours in Sichuan and to Tibet. I have looked at it (in 2009) but i think their prices are not that cheap. A tour join-in (=chinese tour group with visits to shops) to Leshan and Emeishan in a 3star hotel is USD98. A same tour booked somewhere else like in the Traffic Hotel Chengdu or CITS is around USD70. Accommodation is then a 2star hotel. I am wondering if there is a real difference in Wenjun's 3star hotel and the 2star hotels of the other travel agencies.
The hotel also offer a minibus service from the airport for 70 Yuan. We also used this service in 2007 because we were with 4 people and luggage. However with the taxi this ride would cost only 50 Yuan. Our minibus was also quite old and small. If you are alone or with two people (and not arrive late at night), you could take a taxi. Print the hotel name or street in Chinese otherwise the taxidriver has problems to find it.
My wife and i enjoyed our stay in the WenJun Mansion Hotel. Our children (14 and 17 year) much less. The reason is that there is traffic in Qintai Road for 24 hours a day. Because the rooms are not isolated, the traffic noise at night is above average. Their room was also partly on the corner of Qintai Road where the traffic noise comes from. Thats why we moved to the Garden City Hotel in the center of Chengdu.
