Shenzhen Shenzhen is located between Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Thirty years ago Shenzhen was a village but it has grown to one of the biggest cities in China with 6 million people. It became China's first Special Economic Zone (SEZ). SEZ's were founded by the Chinese central government and have more liberal economic laws than elswhere in China. Shenzhen's port is one the largest in China. Lo Wu & Luohu The main railway station of Shenzhen is located in the district Luohu. Luohu District borders Lo Wu. Lo Wu is an area in the North District of Hong Kong. train Lo Wu is the main port of entry between Hong Kong and Shenzhen: 85% of the people go through the land border control points of Lo Wu. It operates daily from 6.30 in the morning to midnight (00.00). From Hung Hom railway station in Kowloon Hong Kong to Lo Wu are several trains per hour. I guess the opposite way will be the same. Fare Hong Kong - Shenzhen is HKD66 return second class or HKD66 first class one way. Train tickets can be purchased in the ticket office on the square. airport The airport is 32 km west of Shenzhen. International flights to the US and Asia. From Shenzhen airport are 6 ferry services directly to Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). Departure times between 8.30 and and 18.30 from the Fuyong Pier. Take the free bus from the arrival hall to the Fuyong pier. Fare for the ferry to HKIA is 272/363 Yuan. Ten airport bus lines and several city buses are running between Shenzhen airport and Shenzhen downtown and Shekou. Near the arrival hall of Shenzhen airport are also buses running to Hong Kong between 10.00-21.00. Travel time for the bus to Hong Kong is 75 minutes and the fare is 90 Yuan. A taxi from the airport to downtown Shenzhen is about 150 Yuan. There is no metro station yet at Shenzhen airport. 'Window of the World' is the closest metro station to the airport. Website of the airport is www.szairport.com taxi If you leave the Lo Wu train station walk 250 metres straight ahead on the square. The official taxicab stand is in the basement of the square near the ticket office. Don't follow people near the door who claim to be taxi driver because you will get ripped off. Red taxis can go anywhere, green taxis are restricted to outside the SEZ, and yellow ones are restricted to the SEZ. Taxi rates start from 12.50 Yuan for the first 3 km and 2.4 Yuan for each additional km. At night fares are higher. boat Shekou is the largest port within the Shenzhen SEZ and 20 km away from Shenzhen downtown. Fast jetcats depart daily between 8.00 and 21.30 to the Macau ferry pier in Central and the China ferry terminal in Kowloon. Fare is 110 Yuan for the jetcat. Ferries to Zhuhai are sailing between 7.30-18.30. Fare is 70 Yuan. There is also a daily boat to Haikou on Hainan Island (18 hours journey/140-450 Yuan/16.00 departure) bus The bus trip from Shenzhen to central Hong Kong takes about 1,5 hours with departures throughout the day. Buses to Hong Kong and Guangzhou depart from the bus station near the Lo Wu train station. Near the arrival hall of Shenzhen airport are also buses running to Hong Kong between 10.00-21.00. Shenzhen exhibitions Shenzhen is famous for it's trade shows, fairs and exhibitions worldwide. Every month there are a couple of exhibitions and fairs scheduled. Website is www.szcec.com. Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center is a huge building located in the downtown area. Metro line 1 and 4 have a stop at the center.
